Benjamin Rexana, 25, is the founder of CyfaDance K9-Care Community Development, a non-profit organisation which takes a holistic approach to community upliftment. Benjamin created the organisation in 2008, providing free dance lessons to impoverished children in Mdantsane Nu 9 where he grew up.
After identifying a lack of mentorship and after-school programmes in his township, Benjamin created CyfaDance with the aim of providing a positive influence and outlet for young kids. Through his self-funded dance school, the children are taught about respect, health and wellness, the importance of education as well as environmental care and animal welfare.
His organisation is also involved in feeding and caring for township dogs. Benjamin educates dog owners and children from his dance school about animal welfare. His team provides basic primary care for dogs who are in distress, often collaborating with other local animal welfare agencies
