Tankiso Moremi, 27, is the founder of the Kasi Hero Foundation and runs a soup kitchen in Soweto that feeds needy children. He began the initiative after losing his job during the 2020 hard lockdown. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, he worked as an administrator for a high school in Eldorado Park, Gauteng.
Tankiso decided to use his experience with children to give back to the community by creating his foundation. He recruited 11 unemployed youths to help him run his foundation in return for a monthly stipend. The organisation is making a valuable impact in Soweto and surrounding areas, arranging weekly soup kitchens, donation drives and various educational projects.
Over 300 children are fed meals though the Kasi Hero Foundation. It has also raised over 1 500 school shoes for needy schools in Gauteng and Limpopo. The foundation has been involved in several other charitable initiatives, including the distribution of 25 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities and dozens of food parcels for pensioners in Tankiso's community.
After operating without a dedicated sponsor for over a year - relying on donations and goodwill - the organisation recently received support from the Collen Mashawana Foundation and other local retailers. Read more about the Kasi Hero Foundation here.
