Watch as EFF leader Julius Malema answers questions during a briefing on his party's decisions regarding coalitions.
It's thought the party's discussions with the leading opposition party (nationally, opposition parties vary per municipality) the DA took strain over political differences.
However, the EFF's own social media account survey showed some supporters were keen on a coalition with the DA.
During his briefing Malema rubbed salt into the wounds of the ANC which underwent serious losses in several municipalities, such as Nelson Mandela Bay during the municipal elections in July.
He did not speak too fondly of the DA, despite agreeing the EFF would vote with that party in areas like Johannesburg, saying it was the better of two devils.
The EFF announcement was scheduled for midday on Wednesday, 17 August 2016 in Alexandra but had not yet started by 12:05.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane was set to hold a briefing on the same topic at 14:30.
