This recipe is always a hit. Kids love snacking on these, and they can be served as a dessert in the bush.

You need:

  • 125 g butter
  • 125 ml cocoa
  • 500 ml sugar
  • 125 ml milk
  • 750 ml rolled oats
  • 250 ml raisins
  • 250 ml coconut
  • pinch of salt
  • 10 ml vanilla essence

Here's how:

1 Cook the butter, cocoa, and sugar together in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add a little of the milk.

2 Add the rest of the milk and other ingredients, and stir well. It doesn't need to boil again, but keep it warm over very low heat while spooning out the cookies. If the mixture cools, it becomes too hard to spoon.

3 Spoon teaspoonfuls onto a greased tray and let them cool overnight. Pack in an airtight container.

Tip

For a quick dessert, crumble three cookies into a bowl and pour store-bought custard over them. Use different flavored custards for variety, such as vanilla, chocolate, or caramel.
