Stu Bowie of Centurion writes During the December holidays, we made a last-minute decision to visit the Kruger Park. My wife Colleen suggested we stay at Mopani in the north, but I was sceptical since everyone knows that "all the animals are in the south".
It's a myth! I was pleasantly surprised: The north was far quieter, with fewer cars at sightings, and the gravel roads were in an excellent condition.
This elephant bull had just had a mud bath and was casually walking towards us. I positioned the car to take photos.
Although he was relaxed, I kept the engine running just in case.
Converting the photo to black-and-white enhanced the sky dramatically. The lack of vegetation really makes this big fellow stand out.
I also like the angle - looking up at him from the car.
