Classic and effortlessly elegant, Evolution Product has become synonymous with heirloom-quality scatter cushions and 100% linen wall panels that transcend trends.

Founded 15 years ago by Amanda du Plessis, the brand has always set out to create conversation pieces rather than purely functional objects.

“Our designs come to life through non-toxic pigment printing, embroidery, hand-dyeing and close collaboration with South African mills, factories and artisans,” says Amanda. “Every piece is finished by hand – from the dyeing process to the final line work completed in our studio.”

Old photos, handwritten letters and carefully selected plant material are often incorporated into the design process, ensuring that each piece tells a layered, personal story. Each cushion is conceived as an artwork in its own right – always intentional.

Alongside scatter cushions and large-scale wall hangings, Evolution Product also produces tea towels, throws and, most recently, carpets in collaboration with MONN – further extending the brand’s tactile storytelling into the home.

Q&A with Amanda

1. Why natural prints and designs?

These motifs celebrate our heritage. They echo memories of landscapes, the Karoo, fynbos, indigenous craft and place-based storytelling. Our aim is to create interiors that feel deeply personal and emotionally resonant, rather than driven by fleeting trends.

2. What are your favourite colours to work with?

Our palette has always been inspired by nature. Signature colours include greens, teal, rust, antique red, ochre and pale blue – tones that age beautifully and layer effortlessly over time.

3. How would you style Evolution Product pieces in a home?

• Feature items that tell a story A single handcrafted textile can become the emotional anchor of a room.

• Consider scale Oversized cushions, generous throws and large-scale wall panels elevate even the simplest spaces and create immediate impact.

• Mix old with new Heritage pieces – whether antique furniture, family heirlooms or handmade objects – combined with contemporary design create homes that feel lived-in, authentic and thoughtfully curated.

4. What is the value of quality linen?

Linen only becomes more beautiful with age. We love that our clients layer and collect our pieces over time, building a visual narrative that reflects both personal history and evolving taste.

5. Which of your products is a personal favourite?

Our latest Call of the Karoo range is very special to me. My favourite cushion is Bella se Diertjies inspired by my beloved mother, who turned 90 last November. She is my greatest creative influence, and this design captures her warmth, curiosity and love of storytelling.
